February 2006

A Prestige Booklet with the theme 'Brunel' was issued on 23rd February 2006 and priced at £7.40 It was produced by Joh. Enschedé, with the Machin se-tenant pane being printed in gravure. Pane four is shown below :-

March 2006

A minisheet was issued on 1st March in respect of the 'National Assembly for Wales'. The minisheet was priced at £2.17.

May 2006

Two new Business Sheets were issued on 16th May 2006. These, had revised details on the covers giving notice of the 'Pricing in Proportion' changes occurring in August 2006. The two Business Sheets were produced by Walsall and printed by gravure are as follows :-

June 2006

Jumbo coils containing 10,000 x 1st Class NVI self adhesive stamps surfaced during the middle of the year. Again, these were produced by Joh. Enschedé and were printed in gravure with a creamy yellow colour backing paper. The stamps are coloured gold and so differ from the previous Joh. Enschedé coil printings which were coloured flame.

These self adhesive jumbo coils were produced for commercial bulk mailers and had probably been available since April 2005 as with their 10,000 x 2nd coil counterparts.


August 2006

Pricing in Proportion (PiP)

From 21st August 2006 Royal Mail introduced a major structural change with regard to the pricing of mail. Previously, items were changed based on weight only, however, the new structure includes size/thickness to go with the weight. Thus, taking the present basic '2nd' and '1st' rates the following applies from August 2006 (the prevailing 2nd (23p) and 1st (32p) basic rate covered a weight to 60gms while 37p (2nd) and 49p (1st) covered the next step up to 100gms):-

To cater for these changes four new NVI designs shown above were introduced, namely a '2nd Large' and '1st Large' based on a new larger Machin format and revised layouts for the basic rate '2nd' and '1st' NVI values. Additionally, two new make-up values - the 12p and 14p were issued. All the following were produced by De La Rue and printed in gravure :-

A minisheet marking the 70th anniversary of 'The Year of Three Kings' was issued on 31st August 2006. The minisheet contains a £3 Machin definitive and was produced by De La Rue and printed in gravure.

Enschedé and the Machin pane contained 4x50p and 4x1st NVI (revised 'Pricing in Proportion' design). The pane was printed in gravure (pane 3) and is shown below :-

October 2006

A promotional booklet with a 'keep a stamp' label was issued on 2nd October 2006 priced at £1.92. The book was produced by Walsall and contained 6 x1st NVI (revised 'Pricing in Proportion' design).

Continuation the Pricing in Proportion products two stamp rolls were available from 3rd October 2006. These rolls had conventional gummed stamps produced by De La Rue were printed in gravure :-

Additionally, rolls of 10,000x2nd NVI (revised 'Pricing in Proportion' design) for large / bulk mail users were made available. They were produced by Joh. Enschedé and printed in gravure with Self Adhesive gum. These rolls may well have been available as early as August 2006. The corresponding rolls of 10,000x1st NVI were not printed.


November 2006

Two Booklets were issued on 7th November 2006 containing Christmas stamps.

On 14th November 2006 a vertical 500x1st NVI stamp roll (revised 'Pricing in Proportion' design) was issued with a Barcode of 104041. The rolls were produced by De La Rue and printed in gravure with conventional gum.


Another minisheet was issued on 30th November entitled 'Celebrating Scotland'. This is the first in a series celebrating the four Countries. The minisheet was priced at £2.08.
