These Stamps/Labels are oversized Machins measuring 58.5mm x 65mm printed in pale 'gold' with full bleed (no white frame around design). The background is overprinted with an iridescent wavyline 'ROYAL MAIL' pattern. The Queens Head also has the wavyline 'ROYAL MAIL' pattern printed in microtext pale gold. Perforations are die cut and have no ellipses. Within the design area additional die cuts consisting of curves and straight lines border the portrait. No phosphor lines are present. The stamps/labels were produced by De La Rue and appear to be printed in gravure. The source of the labels come as a pre-cut 2 label set (measuring 79mm x 161mm) and are printed inverted to each other.

July 2009

Business sheets printed by De La Rue appear to be using a new die cutter for the 'U' shaped cuts producing a bridge at the bottom / top of the 'U'. These are not as pronounced as those produced by Walsall, indeed, its quite easy to miss in some cases. Printing dates from mid January 2009 seem to carry this new feature.

October 2009

A new die cut perforation cylinder has been introduced with the 6x1st, 12x2nd and 12x1st Retail Booklets. Previously, the die cut produced a 'wavy' shape with the crest having a slight point. The new die cutter produces a more angular and broader crest akin to a battlement. These changes are similar to those that occurred on the 6x1st Retail Booklets printed by Questa issued 5 June 2002. Additionally, the bridge of the 'U' shaped die cut appears slightly narrower.
