Interestingly, a new typeface was used for the value tablet of 54p (pane 1) and 5p (pane 4) values. Presumably, this was an erroneous usage of a font that was not picked up at the proofing stage. Additionally, the colour does not conform to the 'Rust' standard of the sheet printings.

The Standard Retail booklets of 6x1st NVI Gold (with additional security features) were reissued on 26th January 2010. These carried a change to the text on the Postcode label side - the web address has a minor change (the 'P' of Postcodes becomes lowercase). The book was produced by Walsall (the Company Imprint still occurs on the back cover) and is printed in Gravure.

February 2010

The Royal Society was the theme of the Prestige Book issued on 25th February 2010 and priced at £7.72. The Machin pane (pane 2) contained 4x54p and 4x22p. Again, the 54p value tablet used the erroneous typeface. The book was produced by Cartor and all panes were printed in Litho.

The second Custom Retail Booklet for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was issued on 25th February 2010. The 6x1st booklet contained 4x1st NVI Gold Machin stamps (with additional security features) and 2x1st Special Issue (1xTrack and 1xBasketball). The sheet contained 20x1st NVI Dragon Flag design stamps (this design was used on the Celebrating Wales minisheet - Feb 2009) and was priced at £8.35. The Europe and Worldwide stamps are unprinted on the back of the carrier paper, indicating they were specially produced for packs.

Also, new 60p and 97p Country pictorial definitives (normal gum) were issued featuring the same designs as the prevailing 56p and 90p values and printed in gravure by De La Rue. An associated presentation pack (Pack No 87) was also issued containing the 8 new country stamps priced at £6.80.

The Machin Collectors Club will be publishing the latest edition of their 'MCC Queen Elizabeth II Specialised Definitives Stamp Catalogue' on 18th April 2010.

The roll-out of new versions of Horizon labels began during April - the earliest date seen is 20th April. These are similar to those used for the 2009 'Camden Town' special delivery trial that used a Large Machin Head Label. The start of the roll-out began in Wales with the labels printed using bilingual text. The price codes include 'A', '1LG', '2LG', '1PK', etc. The following inage shows a label with English text :-

May 2010

The London 2010 Festival of Stamps stamp exhibition will take place between 8th May and 15th May at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London (venue of Stampex).

A London 2010 Festival of Stamps Minisheet entitled 'George V Accession' was issued on 6th May 2010 priced at £1.41.

  Value Colour Design Printer Method

The 1st NVI Flame Double Head stamp from the minisheet was also issued in counter sheets and these were printed by Cartor. The primary sheet size contained 150 (in panes of 25); plate numbers seen are C1, phosphor C1 with 6 possible plate grid positions.

The following two NVI Retail Booklets have now been found with the secondary hidden code 'MAIO'. Interestingly, the main code which was originally 'FOYAL' has been changed to 'MFIL'. These books still have iridescent Cylinder W1.

  Value Colour Design Printer Method
  1st NVI Scarlet Wembley 1924 Enschedé Recess/Litho
  1st NVI Brown Wembley 1924
  £1 Green Sea Horses
  £1 Indigo Blue Sea Horses

The press sheet containing 9 minisheet was available priced at £27.90.

A presentation pack (Pack No 441) containing the two minisheets was available priced at £4.75.

The third prestige booklet of the year entitled '1910-1936 King George V' and part of the London 2010 Festival of Stamps was issued on 8th May 2010 priced at whopping £11.15. The cover is based on the design used for the Silver Jubilee 1935 booklets. The booklet producer was Cartor with Enschedé providing the Recess printed panes and Walsall providing the Machin pane printed in gravure. The reverse side of the Machin pane is printed with facsimiles of the 2½d Dark Blue Silver Jubilee 1935 stamp.

The 'U' shaped die cuts on the Machin pane can be found with two variants.

A second Jeffery Matthews Colour Palette minisheet was issued on 8th May 2010 [the previous one was issued for Stamp Show 2000] priced at £5.05. The minisheet was produced by Cartor and printed in Litho - providing a new printing source for many of the 11 values. The 67p stamp is interesting in that the phosphor bands appear to fluoresce differently to the other values. Indeed, the bands appear to exhibit a 'halo' effect implying an additional 'ink' layer was printed.

A new 'low values' definitives presentation pack (Pack No 88) was issued on 8th May 2010 priced at £16.10. This pack includes the present range of values to £1.46 (11 stamps), NVI values (6 stamps) and overseas NVI's (5 stamps).

A fourth prestige booklet with the theme 'Britain Alone' was issued on 13th May 2010 priced at £9.76. The Machin pane (pane 1) contained 4x5p (this uses the correct Jeffery Matthews typeface), 2x60p and 2x10p printed in Litho by Cartor.

New Stamp Coils were issued on 13th May 2010 in both 500 and 1000 length formats. These have conventional gum and have the 'ROYAL MAIL' iridescent overprint, however, as they are not on self adhesive paper 'U' shaped die cuts could not be reproduced. The hidden codes are 'MRIL' above the Queens diadem and a secondary code 'MAIO' appears in front of the Queens forehead.

Stanley Gibbons published the delayed Volume 4 Part 2 of their Queen Elizabeth II Decimal Definitive Issues Specialised Stamp Catalogue during August. This covers the NVI issues, Self adhesive issues, Castle High Values, Country issues - Machin and Pictorial, Post & Go Labels, etc. The catalogue has been given an extensive re-design.

The Large Machin Horizon label has been reprinted with straight edges and round corners rplaceing the simulated die cut perforations used previously. Its understood the reason for this change was down to the labels causing jammimg in the printing machines. The new versions were introduced at Old Street in London on 23rd August 2010.

September 2010

The fifth 6x1st NVI Custom Retail Booklet in the series of British Design Classics was issued on 15th September 2010. The two special issue stamps feature the Spitfire. The book was produced by Walsall (the Company Imprint still occurs on the back cover) and is printed in Gravure on self adhesive paper. The hidden codes are 'MCIL' above the Queens diadem and a secondary code 'MAIO' appears in front of the Queens forehead.

New Pictorial Post & Go Labels were introduced on 17th September 2010. These were the first in a series featuring birds and included six different multicoloured designs - Blue Tit, Goldfinch, Robin, Wood Pigeon, House Sparrow and Starling. The labels were produced by Walsall and the base stock was printed in gravure without ellipse perfs.
Interestingly, the Post & Go machines require modifications to the software to faciliate the new label design - the point of sale tariff information is set further to the left on the labels. Further additions to the Birds series will be issued in January 2011. When rolls of the Birds labels are exhausted the standard Machin version will used - the revised compact version of the text is shown below :-

October 2010

The fourth 6x1st NVI Custom Retail Booklet in the series of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was issued on 12th October 2010. The two special issue stamps feature Football and Cycling. The book was produced by Walsall (the Company Imprint still occurs on the back cover) and is printed in Gravure on self adhesive paper. The hidden codes are 'MCIL' above the Queens diadem and a secondary code 'MAIO' appears in front of the Queens forehead.

Two new Machin stamps for the Special Delivery tariff rate were issued on 26th October 2010. These stamps use the same basic design as that used for the 'Recorded Signed For' stamps introduced in November 2009. The printings are on self adhesive paper in counter sheets of 25 with two phosphor bands and have the wavyline 'ROYAL MAIL' text as an iridescent overprint. The stamps have a secondary hidden code 'MAIO' in front of the Queens forehead.
